This is what happens when a dog is truly comfortable in his new home and with his new parents (see note below). Miko's previous owners complained that all he wanted to do was jump their fence, get into the garbage, and be rude to their other dogs. They couldn't wait to get rid of him because of that. We knew that he was a good dog, no a great dog; he just needed someone who truly cared and appreciated him and knew how to work with him. (BTW, he was so skinny when he got to us from the previous owners, that his ribs were caved in).

We left early this morning and missed heavy traffic in LA, hit Phoenix by 1 pm and had little traffic there too. Got home at 3:30 J!
Miko again was a ‘model’ traveler. He looked forward to his exercise breaks along the way.
He loves the house. After walking through every room 3 or 4 times. We played out in the walled area with the ball—he’s a fanatic! Then lots of time in the pool. He immediately located the steps and walked right in for a swim. It was lots of fun!
He ate well after all the exercise and was very well mannered as we ate dinner. We are amazed at how many behaviors and traits he has to our Maggie—lays in the same spots, plays with her old toys, and including holding his leash when I walked him around the house.
Tonight after dinner I took Kiwi out in the backyard for her ‘duties’ and had Miko on a leash. He was delighted to explore all our paths—and didn’t get stuck once by a cactus!! Beginners luck! I’m sure that will happen a few times before he learns NOT to deviate from the pathways. Chuck and Dana

Miko is an 8 year old, wonderful Standard whose owner could no longer care for him.  You would never know he's 8 because he has been well taken care of and has the energy of a younger dog.  He loves, loves, loves to play fetch with the ball, but once he's tired he is willing to take a rest.  He puts the ball underneath his front foot and happily lays down for awhile.  When he fetches the ball, he brings it back and gently puts it down on the chair next to you rather than the ground - how respectful!  He LOVES the water and to swim.  This guy really needs a pool or to be around a lake or similar body of water for daily exercise.  If he sees open water, he will do all he can to get in.  He is a very strong guy and so will need someone who can manage a large, strong dog.

Miko is a very friendly and seems to love everybody.  He does well around small dogs who will stand up for themselves and aren't submissive (the same goes for larger dogs).  Cat compatibility is unknown.

Adoption fees include spay/neuter, vaccinations, flea treatment, heartworm test and preventative, wormings, and all other medical care needed to ensure a healthy dog.  Fees vary, based on the care required, age and needs of the animal.  We rely strictly on our adoption fees since we don't receive any outside funding.
The adoption fees we require do not cover the medical expenses, let alone the daily cost of taking care of the dogs we hope to re-home. Additional expenses are out-of-pocket.
